Reed, Willa and their parents celebrated a quiet New Year’s Eve at home with a fondue party and a movie. Fortunately we started early because a wind storm knocked out our electricity from 10 pm through much of the new year’s morning. It was a great reminder that all we need to be happy is a warm fire and our family. Pour over coffee makers and fully-charged iPads also don’t hurt. Happy 2019!

Take a Hike, 2018
Skating Away
Willa, Reed and their parents headed out to Clinton Square to ice skate one evening just after Christmas so that they would be able to skate in the glow of the Syracuse Christmas tree this season.
Christmas Joy
Following tradition, we make memories and not photos on Christmas. But I did take the annual stair picture of the kids before the morning’s magic began! Happiest holidays and merry Christmas from our family to yours. Wishing you joy all the year through!
Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve is full of traditions for Reed and Willa. For years, we have taken our afternoon family walk with two red-nosed reindeer on Christmas Eve and then each Christmas Eve, Reed and Willa get to catch up with their cousins on the Persse side for an evening of holiday fun. Plus this year we also got to squeeze in a pre-Christmas visit with May!
Taking Aim at Christmas Break
The holiday break started with a record-warm afternoon and, even through Christmas was just a few days away, the kids wore short sleeves and shorts as they practiced their accuracy with archery and target shooting with the BB gun.
Not-So-Ugly Sweaters
Reed and Willa dressed up for Ugly Sweater Day as part of their holiday school spirit days. While these sweaters may be consider “ugly” by some, the kids love them and happily wore them all season long!
Gingerbread Housed
Willa and Reed created their gingerbread houses in true style this year. Willa deliberately, thoughtfully created two houses that were decorated just as she planned. Reed was a little more abstract in his creating, finally gleefully giggling and delighting in the fact that it looked like a huge flock of bird flew over his houses and let loose! However, as different as both kids’ masterpieces were, one thing remained the same. More frosting was squirted into their mouths than onto their houses!
Tree Traditions
Willa was excited to unpack an old ceramic Christmas Tree made by her mom’s great grandmother (Willa’s great-great grandmother). Just like her mom did as a little girl, Willa painstakingly put all the tiny lights into the tree and delighted in the colorful glow of this Christmas tradition.
Saying Goodbye to his Metal Mouth
After 10 months of braces and 8 months of palate expanding, Reed was finally slated to be his braces off in early December. While he’s grown accustomed to them and was a great sport, he’s ready to start enjoying caramel and chewing gum again!
Oh, Christmas Tree
All Board the Polar Express
The thing about trains... it doesn't matter where they're going. What matters is deciding to get on. -The Conductor
Reed and Willa donned their fleecy pajamas and warmest coats to take a ride on the Polar Express. Every year, our family kicks off the holiday season by riding the train on the day after Thanksgiving. We know that these moments and years are fleeting and as we watch the children get older, the magic of the season changes. But we hope that every year, no matter how old, they always decide to get on board ❤️
Why Did the Turkey Join a Band?
Because he had a drumstick of course! Happy thanksgiving from all of our turkeys!
