On Stage for Morning Program
Reed's school has a weekly assembly called "Morning Program" and it's he'd each Friday morning. All of the kindergarteners, first graders and second graders attend and parents are welcome in the audience. The visiting author series (recently the author of the "Pete the Cat" series came) and other performers often attend are on stage for the programs. Also each week, different musical groups from with in the school perform (this week the xylophone group performed) and the school staff also discuss target learning and character traits. And each week one class is selected to go on stage and perform songs and dances that highlight the classroom community and academics. This week, Reed's class was on stage and they performed their "rise and shine" morning song, a song focusing on counting by 10s and "Go Bananas", a classroom favorite! I was able to video record the performance but cannot post it here (too long) but here's Reed and his classmates on stage post-performance for a class photo!
Snow Day (Again!)
As the snow continues to fall this February and the picnic table and sandbox are completely buried, we had yet another snow day to stay home and play. The snow was level with the porch and the kids took turns leaping into the chest-deep snow and pelting snow balls at each other and us. The competition was on for "king of the mountain" and Reed, Willa, and Stella were all in the running. Winter break is just around the corner and we are looking forward to many more snowy adventures this winter!
Pancakes and Pajama Party!
Willa celebrated the first of many 3rd birthday celebrations with an early "Pancakes and Pajamas" party with 6 of her friends. The kids wore their pajamas to the brunch and ate pancakes and pink rosewater cupcakes and "bacon and eggs", too. They played "Pin the Butter on the Pankcake", had a pancake relay race, and made fruit loop necklaces. The house was decorated with balloons and rainbow flowers, all selected by Willa, and the kids decorated placemats with moon and star crayons that they could take home. Despite the cold and snow outdoors, a warm and sunny time was had by all.

When Dinosaurs Attack...
...could have been the name of the scene that Reed and Willa set up in the big drifts of snow next to the high tunnel, ideal for caves, tunnels and avalanches. Fortunately, the dinosaurs met their match in a couple of snow angels.
Ice is Nice
According to Willa, who chose to go skating with mom while Reed skied with dad. We made many laps around Shove Park Rink and although Willa was a little more independent with the "walkers",she really liked going "so fast" while holding her mom's hand!
Future Ski Patroller
Reed and his dad, a long-time member of the National Ski Patrol at Labrador, hit the slopes recently (Willa's also happily been out on skis, too). Reed, as all good patrollers do prior to hitting the hill, checked the ski patrol refridgerator's contents first. Refreshments, anyone?!
Don't Break the Ice
Yes, that's the name of one of our favorite games but also our mantra on a recent ice fishing expedition on Otisco Lake.
Big Feet
Reed and Willa received snowshoes for Christmas from their parents and have loved using their "big feet" to make big tracks all over the farm.
